It is the difference between man-centered performance and God-centered grace. It is the difference between no gospel at all and the gospel of the glory of God's grace. God commands of us what is most sensible given who He is, what He's done, what He will do - and this command to us is also the best thing for us. Worshiping God alone will satisfy our souls alone and will glorify God alone. "You shall have no other gods before me." is like God saying, "You shall not settle for anything less than the most satisfying gift of all - ME." That order is an absolutely uncompromisable distinction.
